Since its opening in 2019, The Junction – Zero Waste Hub has been an incredible success story of collaboration, sustainability, and community engagement. Operated by a team from WISE, in partnership with the New Plymouth District Council and Sustainable Taranaki, The Junction has become a thriving community space dedicated to reducing waste and creating a greener future.
Here are some of the remarkable achievements of The Junction so far:
1. Over 880 Tonnes of Waste Diverted from Landfill
Imagine saving more than 880 tonnes of waste from ending up in a landfill—that’s what The Junction has achieved! By giving unwanted items a second life, we’re protecting the environment and saving valuable resources.
2. 23 Jobs Created Locally
The Junction isn’t just helping the planet; it’s supporting people too. We’ve created 23 jobs, providing meaningful opportunities for locals while building a sustainable future.
3. 277,217 Pre-Loved Items Sold
From clothes to furniture and everything in between, The Junction has helped more than 277,000 second-hand treasures find new homes. That’s not just great for the environment—it’s also great for your wallet!
4. 142,412 Visitors and Drop-Offs
Our community has shown up in a big way. With over 142,000 visits and drop-offs, The Junction has become a vibrant hub for sustainability and connection.
The Junction is more than a store, it’s a space where people come to learn, share, and take action. Through workshops, educational programs, and sustainable shopping, it’s inspiring a shift toward a waste-free lifestyle.
